Feature project: The Bamboo Schools

The Bamboo School project offers a high level of education to the poorest children in Nepal. Karuna-Shechen plans to build a school in 2009 in Pokhara, Nepal thanks to the generosity of a group of dedicated sponsors. Construction of the school in Banepa, Nepal (about 90 minutes drive from Kathmandu), will be finished after the monsoon season. Three hundred students are already enrolled and, once it is completed this winter, the school will be able to educate up to 1000 children. By using bamboo as the main material, construction costs are reduced by 60%. So far, over 15,000 children have been given an opportunity for a better future through education. read more
