Karuna’s intention is to create a nurturing and inspiring environment that promotes cooperation within our programs. We believe that every altruistic act, when valued, multiplied, and shared, contributes to a network of mutual support and kindness. By valuing altruistic actions, Karuna is committed to nurturing this intention by creating spaces conducive to listening, mutual understanding, and collaboration. This proven method ensures the best results.
Being the Architect of One’s Future
Everyone has the ability to recognize the potential of their actions, which, if directed appropriately, can create positive and lasting impacts beyond personal interests. The promotion of these altruistic behaviors is crucial to the success of Karuna’s programs. It is the very essence of our intervention strategy: the Altruism in Action Model !
The individuals being supported are at the core of the programs, whether in project design, implementation, or promotion. What better example of the utility and success of programs than the people who have directly participated in them? Karuna acts as a facilitator, supporting communities in acquiring necessary tools such as governance, project monitoring, budget management, etc. Men and women work together and thus become actors in their own change.
From beneficiaries to role models for their communities, anyone can participate in the multitude of actions collectively aimed at addressing the root causes of intense poverty. For example, environmental awareness in Nepal, Kitchen gardens, and Babua schools in India exemplify the foundation of altruism in action.

Preserving Our Environment
The environmental preservation program in Nepal embodies the desire to create a context for collective reflection, where each individual is recognized as having a central role in the well-being of the community and the planet.
The World Day Against Monoculture Tree Plantations on September 21st provided an opportunity to discuss environmental issues and participate in activities such as cleanup campaigns or awareness workshops. Children, parents, and volunteers had the chance to become aware of the impact of biodiversity and the importance of creating a greener environment for everyone, contributing to better air quality, soil conservation, and overall well-being.
Environmental preservation programs in Nepal promote community collaboration by aligning their goals with collective well-being. Individuals are encouraged to work together for the common good, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose.

Food Security : Cultivating the Land to Cultivate the Spirit
The Organic Kitchen Gardens program aims to enable everyone to cultivate their plots of land. By fostering communication within communities, Karuna provides farmers with the opportunity to share their knowledge of land, agricultural techniques, and exchange or sell their surplus to a larger audience.
In Bodhgaya, India, 45-year-old Jaymanti Devi has been running a farm for many years, mainly cultivating seasonal vegetables. Due to financial constraints, she could no longer invest in new seeds or improve the quality of her products.
During a meeting organized by Karuna, she learned about our solutions to make high-quality native seeds affordable and accessible, as well as our training on eco-friendly techniques. Through mutual assistance among farmers, Jaymanti was trained and has since received a regular supply of seeds that have greatly improved the quality and quantity of her crops. This development not only allows her to ensure sufficient consumption for her family and significantly increase her income but also contributes to environmental preservation. Her family is healthier, and her children benefit from better education.

Education : The Key to a Harmonious Future
Education plays a central role in shaping children. Karuna is dedicated to promoting the development of compassion within its Babua schools and early childhood centers.
In India, Aditya Yadav lives with his family in Dema. He has two daughters, Nisha and Misha Kumari, aged 6 and 5, respectively. His elder daughter Nisha has been enrolled in the Babua school for a year. Coming from a low-income farming family, Aditya actively participates in all initiatives offered by Karuna, becoming an active spokesperson for his community. Aware of the importance of quality education, without distinction of gender or caste, Aditya addresses development issues in his village by emphasizing the values of compassion and cooperation.
A staunch advocate for the Babua school, his vision represents the ideology championed by Karuna: “Educating my child is my duty. I make no distinction, whether it’s a girl or a boy. Both represent the future! We are responsible for the future of these children and must ensure they are educated and supported. I am very grateful to Karuna-Shechen for this school, its other activities in our village, and the dedication of its teams. The teachers are very competent and put in a lot of effort to ensure student involvement. I have observed significant improvement in my child, and I hope to see more in the future.”
Consciousness of One’s Value
Through awareness work specific to each project, communities can make informed decisions. By deciding for themselves, individuals become aware of the impact of their decisions on their future. This encourages individuals to engage in altruistic actions for both personal and collective benefit.
