The Nyingma Monlam (Prayer Festival) is an annual event that takes place at the Great Stupa of Enlightenment in Bodhgaya, India. Our Medical Clinic provided free medical care during the festival’s 10 days of ceremonies (January 28 – Feb 6).
Thousands of people – Buddhist monks, nuns, and laypeople – from around the world flock to this event, and Karuna-Shechen was there to serve them.
Free medical camp for pilgrims – January 2017, Bodhgaya
Earlier in the year during the Dalai Lama’s Kalachakra initiation, the mobile clinic treated some of the hundred thousand pilgrims (many from Tibet) for both acute problems and long-term illnesses. The clinic established camps near both the events to facilitate its activities.
We also took the opportunity to distribute 14,000 reusable jute bags in order to discourage the use of plastics.
