On May 1st, our British funding partner, the Shining Hope Foundation (SHF), organized an awareness and fundraising event in Luxemburg, at The International School of Luxembourg (ISL) during the school’s annual Mayfest event.
Schoolchildren from the lower school’s French Class raised funds for Karuna-Shechen’s Early Childhood Development Program (EDC) in India by organinizing games and stilt-racing. The children made stilts just like those donated in India (see the video below), and raised charged visitors to use them to race
The games were a great success, and one boy remarked, “It was better than play station. Do children in India have play station?” However, many children living in remote indian villages do not even have a single toy, let alone play station.
Now, thanks to our new ECD program, launched in 2014 in collaboration with the French association Inter’lude , children one to six years old in our 18 partner villages in India will have access to toys and educational games in the Angawadi Centers (pre-school centers). Funds raised at the MayFest will go toward financing the purchase of these toys and games.
On behalf of the children benefiting from the ECD program and all of us at Karuna-Shechen, we thank the ISL students and SHF for their invaluable support.
